Trailers and Dev Diaries

The PopCap and the GameZ Inc. logos show. Then...

A war between zombies and plants in a ruined battlefield. Super Brainz is going to attack a Weed, but then a Starfruit (NEW CLASS!) falls from the sky and crushes between the two, sending Super Brainz away. But then a Ninja (NEW CLASS!) teleports near to them, slashes the Starfruit and a group of Weeds with a katana, and when a hypnotic beam comes from a Shroom (NEW CLASS!), he throws a smoke grenade and disappears. The Shroom then hypnotizes an Imp and forces him to fight for plants. The Hypnotized Imp then calls for the Z-Mech and destroys a Chomp-Mech (NEW CLASS!) which was chomping a Peashooter. The Bonk Choy (NEW CLASS!) appears and punches rapidly an All-Star. We can then see the Starfruit being helped by the Star Drone and spinning around, shooting stars. The Shroom, the Starfruit and the Bonk Choy corner the new zombie classes, and a Cherry Bomb falls from the sky, exploding on the zombies. However, Zombotron in his new "Zombot Mecha Flying Head" drops down a Reviving Brainz BBQ, reviving all the zombies and confirming the return of Boss Mode. The new plants and the new zombies face off each other.

Then the logo shows, end of first trailer.

The Popcap and the GameZ Inc. logos show. Then...

The war between the plants and zombies continues, this time in the Big Wave Beach (yes, "Big Wave" is the name of the Beach). A Surf Master (NEW CLASS!) surfs, jumps off the surfboard and lands on earth, while shooting at a Cactus with a water gun. He then dodges a powerful cabbage thrown by the Cabbage-Pult (NEW CLASS!) and a Super Duper Cabbage Ball from the Bonk Choy. A Cowboy (NEW CLASS!) arrives by riding a bull and kicks the Cabbage-Pult with a spur. The Laser Bean (NEW CLASS!) makes a powerful beam in direction of the Cowboy, which escapes it by blowing himself up with some dynamite. The Archmage Wizard (NEW CLASS!) transforms a group of weeds in innocent sheeps. The Wizard casts a Magic Bolt which critcally hits the Cabbage-Pult. But the Blover (NEW CLASS!) blows him away. The Bonk Choy fires a laser, and the Shroom scatters spores around the map. A Cactus stretches up high (new ability) and snipes various zombies. An All-Star tackles a Sunflower, and the Surf Master pulls out a fishing rod and catches a Rose. The Chomp-Mech chomps a Chomper, and a Captain Deadbeard shoots at some Weeds. However, the Phat Beet (NEW CLASS!) appears and does a critical thump to all the zombies. The Peashooter Zombie (NEW CLASS!) comes in and shoots peas at plants. All the plants and all the zombies face off each other.

Then the logo shows, end of second trailer.

This video explains the new plants' and the new zombies' (those revealed in the Trailer, Side A) abilities and primary weapons.

This video explains the new plants's and the new zombies' abilities and primary weapons shown in the Trailer, Side B, as well as the new abilities for veteran classes.

This video shows new maps, new Potted Plants, new AI Zombies, as well as the Mega-Mix Mode. It also shows a new "There's a Zombie on your Lawn" rock remix, which will serve as a secondary main theme.

This video shows some Single-Player modes: Mission Mode and Free Mode, as well as a Sneak Peek for some of the Zombot Battles.

This video shows even more maps, new Weeds, new Build-a-Bots, as well as 1 character variant for the classes from GW1 (Repeater, Twin Flower, Ice Chomper, Threectus, Armor Soldier, Bricklayer, Cryogenesist, and Soccer Star), and shows a brand new PvZ theme remix, which will serve as the Menu Theme.

This Dev Diary wasn't a video, but instead a blog in the PopCap website.

"Wait, did you just realized? In the original Garden Warfare, there were 4 plants and 4 zombies, and a total of 70 playable characters, counting Boss Mode. In GW2, we added 3 more plants and 3 more zombies, and there were a total of ____ playable characters. In this game, however, we're happy to announce that....

we will add 7 new plants and 7 new zombies, doubling the total from 14 to 28.

In the 1.0 version of the game, there will be twelve variants for each class. 28 x 12 = 336 playable characters. And that's not all! Yes, because we do plan to add 6 more variants to each class. 28 x 18 = 504 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS! PLUUS, BOSS MODE!

506 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS!!! THAT'S CRAAAAAAAAAAZY!!!!!!! We're gonna take a long time to develop all of this variants, but for now we're working on the "Starter Pack", the stuff in the 1.0 version. We're confirming 13 major updates after the release, 6 of which contain a variant for every class. The 11th update will probably be the biggest update in videogame history. We're also stating that every variant not only will have a different primary weapon (and if that's the case health and speed), but will have different-while-similar abilities. For example, the Repeater will shoot two Chili Bean Bombs at once, the Twin Flower will summon a Twin Heal Flower, the Ice Chomper will summon a frozen Spikeweed called "Frozen Thorn", and the Threectus will summon 3 Potato Mine & Wall-Nut Sets. That's all for today!"

    • Herbal Assault Classic
    • Go here -> Herbal Assault (PVZ:GW3)
  • Battlefield (DLC: Retro Legends)
    • An Herbal Assault/Garden & Graveyards/Suburbination hybrid. The first part resembles Suburbination: there is a neutral base which Plants and Zombies must conquer. If, for example, plants capture this base, the rest of the match will be like Herbal Assault. If zombies capture the base instead, the rest of the match will be like to Gardens and Graveyards. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Battlefield Classic
    • Go here -> Battlefield (PVZ:GW3)
  • Melee Capture (DLC: Smashin' Party)
    • Melee Capture is a mode where every players plays for itself. That means plants can vanquish plants, and the same goes for zombies. Every player must capture some command posts (they're similar to the ones in Suburbiation). The first player who will capture a random number of bases (from 10 to 50) will win. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Melee Capture Classic
    • Go here -> Melee Capture (PVZ:GW3)
  • Suburbination
    • In the Suburbination mode, both teams are pitted against each other to capture three command posts and to gather 100 points. The first team that reaches the score limit wins. The command posts will start as neutral and will appear as either Gardens or Graveyards, depending on which faction controls them. The more gardens or graveyards a team has, the more points they score. Command posts controlled by the opposing team can be neutralized (reverting them to neutral) and captured for your team by clearing out all opposing team members and then staying near the command post and holding off enemies until it caps. The neutralization process and the capture process take 8 seconds to complete each and if a player enters the capture radius while an opponent is within it (or vice versa), the timer will freeze and will remain so until ether team is driven off. If either team controls all 3 command posts at the same time, it will trigger a "Suburbination!" effect and all players on that team will gain 50 coins every 2 seconds. In addition to that, the team's score counter will start to go upwards at a progressively faster rate, prompting the opposing team to stop the Suburbination quickly or else their adversaries will win. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Suburbination Classic
    • Go here -> Suburbination (PVZ:GW3)
  • Gnome Bomb
    • Its main objective is for the the plants or zombies must find the Gnome Bomb to destroy the opponents' Garden or Graveyard. Both plants and zombies have three bases. The time limit for a game is 15 minutes. The first team to take out three bases wins. If time runs out and both teams have not gotten three bases destroyed, then the team that destroyed the most bases wins. If both teams are tied when the times runs out it goes to overtime, and in this situation, the first team to plant a Gnome Bomb wins. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Gnome Bomb Classic
    • Go here -> Gnome Bomb (PVZ:GW3)
  • Team Vanquish
    • Team Vanquish is based upon the aspect of two teams battling out to control the battlefield. Teamwork is practically required in this game mode. Considering how it is easy to get vanquished while alone, the player should avoid straying too far from a group, especially one with a healer. Some classes are more ideal for being alone than others, such as the Chomper, but they are easier to vanquish by the enemy team. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Team Vanquish Classic
    • Go here -> Team Vanquish (PVZ:GW3)
  • Vanquish Confirmed!
    • Vanquish Confirmed! is just like Team Vanquish with a twist. If the player wants to add points to his or her team, he or she must pick up the Crazy Orbs from a vanquished opponent. A vanquished zombie drops purple orbs and a vanquished plant drops green orbs. Getting a Crazy Orb from the opposite team will award the player with 150 coins, and getting a Crazy Orb from fallen ally will award the player with 75 coins. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Vanquish Confirmed! Classic
    • Go here -> Vanquish Confirmed! (PVZ:GW3)
  • Vanquish Brawl (DLC: Time Travel)
    • Vanquish Brawl is just like Team Vanquish with a twist. Every player has a limited number of lives. If a player loses all of its lives, it will be sent back to the main menu. If a player vanquishes a player with 1 life, it will get a coin bonus. On XDS only: another local player can join.
    • Vanquish Brawl Classic
    • Go here -> Vanquish Brawl (PVZ:GW3)

    • Welcome Mat is similar to Team Vanquish mode expect there is no customization and if the player gets vanquished a lot, he or she will respawn with more health, notified by an on-screen notification saying "SLIGHT HEALTH BOOST"! and the player receives 30 extra health points. Hence the name, this mode was made for new players (as it gives them benefits once they get vanquished) but is likewise good for veteran players that are in the need of sharpening their skills, such like after a long pause in playing.
